     Artemis Class Attack Cargo Ship:  Laid sown as a Maritime Commision type (S4-SE-Be1) hull, under a Maritime Commision contact, at Welsh-Kaiser Co. Providence, R.I. Launched, 31 January 1945, Commissioned USS Renate (AKA-36), 28 February 1945, Lt. Cmdr. Joseph F. Wickham, USNR, in command. Reclassified Survey Ship and renamed USS Maury (AGS-16), 12 July 1946. Decommissioned and struck from the Naval Register, 19 December 1969. Laid up in the Inactive Ships Maintenance Facility, Returned to the Maritime Administration, 26 June 1970, for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, Suisun Bay, Benecia, CA.

     Final Disposition, sold for scrapping, 10 August 1973, to National Steel and Metal Co., Terminal Island, CA.
